Cream Backed

HISTORY: In early 1960 Mr Bruce Read and Mr Dennis Glacken were in Ace Colony bird dealers of Westmead, Sydney when they discovered a very nice cream hen in a cabinet; however on closer inspection they found it was not Cream as it was pure white under the beak, they then thought it may be a 'Penguin'. Mr Dennis Glacken acquired the bird which he mated to a Grey cock bird. After several nests he realised that the bird was not a Penguin but a new mutation which he called Cream Backed.
GENETICS: SEX-LINKED
- Cream-backed x Cream-backed = Cream-backed cocks and hens
- CB x Grey = Grey/cb cocks and CB hens
- Grey x CB = Grey/cb cocks and Grey hens
- Grey/cb x CB = CB & Grey/cb cocks and Grey & CB hens
- Grey/cb x Grey = Grey & Grey/cb cocks and Grey & CB hens *
* This mating is not recommended as it is visually impossible to detect which Greys are pure.
Substituting Grey with Fawn &/or CFW will give similar results.
SHOW FAULTS:
COCK
- Body colour too light
- Markings too dark or light
HEN
- Body colour too Light
- Pale tail coverts
AVAILABILITY: Low.
GENERAL: Cream-Backeds are held by very few breeders; which is a shame as a good Cream-Backed is a beautiful bird. It has been suggested that the Cream-Backed is the same as the CFW-Fawn, with a focus on a creamy back colour.
