White

HISTORY: First bred in Sydney in 1921 in the aviaries of Mr A.J. Woods. 3 White hens produced were sold to Mr H. Lyons who established the mutation. The birds were dark eyed. The red eyed variety appeared in the 1950s from Fawn parents. No Albinos were believed to have been bred in Australia.
GENETICS: RECESSIVE
- White x White = White cocks and hens
- White x Grey = Grey/white cocks and hens *

- Grey/white x Grey = Grey & Grey/white cocks and hens **
- Grey/white x Grey/white = Grey, White & Grey/white cocks and hens **
* The reverse matings will give the same results.
** This mating is not recommended as it is visually impossible to detect which Greys are pure.

GENERAL: The White is not kept in large numbers. Their lack of markings could be a reason. Many Whites are in fact 'pied' Whites (white masking pied) as often quality Whites are bred from Pied stock. This appears to help maintain their type and size; so anybody interested in breeding show quality Whites would be well advised to obtain good quality Pieds.
